SUFFOLK, VA – Two people suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday, April 24, as a result of a collision involving a tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 58 in west Suffolk.
The accident took place on the westbound lanes of the highway (Franklin Bypass), just west of exit 189. Suffolk Police responded to the area after being notified at about 4:35 p.m.
Officials have not released a sequence of events leading up to the wreck, but a tractor-trailer and another unspecified vehicle collided.
First responders rushed two occupants from the other vehicle, the driver and a passenger, to an area hospital via medical helicopter.
No injuries to the truck driver were reported.
A photo taken by a bystander after the crash shows extensive damage to a silver vehicle, which appeared to come at rest near the tree line along the roadway.
No charges or citations were immediately reported, but an investigation was underway.
