HENRICO COUNTY, VA – A 53-year-old woman from North Chesterfield lost her life Thursday afternoon, July 4, due to a single-vehicle crash near southeast Richmond that left three other people hurt.
The accident took place on the eastbound lanes of Pocahontas Parkway at about 3:16 p.m
According to Virginia State Police, a 52-year-old man was driving a passenger car eastbound on the parkway when, for reasons still unclear, the vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway. It then hit a guardrail and rolled onto its side before coming to rest on the westbound highway.
The 53-year-old woman, who was ejected during the wreck, was rushed to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
Officials said the male driver suffered serious injuries but did not immediately disclosed the extent of his condition.
The vehicle’s other two passengers, a 24-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl, suffered injuries considered minor.
An investigation by the VSP remains in progress.
