Narrative
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – At least four people were injured as a result of a multi-vehicle crash early Sunday, March 31, involving a racing car on Interstate 395 near Alexandria.
Virginia State Police said troopers were initially alerted to two vehicles engaged in a street race on the southbound lanes of I-395, shortly after 12:00 a.m.
Although officials attempted to pull over the drivers, both vehicles fled the scene. One vehicle wa seen exiting the interstate using the Edsall Road exit, and the Toyota Camry traveled the southbound lanes before it collided with two other vehicles that were also heading southbound near the Edsall Road exit.
The driver of the Camry, a 19-year-old Silver Spring, Maryland resident, and their passenger were both transported to a local hospital. While the extent of their injuries has not been confirmed, both victims are expected to survive.
An unspecified number of other patients from the other two vehicles were also transported to a hospital and are expected to recover.
The driver of the Camry has since been charged with “eluding police, racing that results in an injury, damage to property and taillight violations.
