BEDFORD COUNTY, VA – A 19-year-old woman has died following a head-on collision last weekend near Stewartsville that left six other people hospitalized.
The fatal crash happened on an unspecified stretch of State Highway 24 on Sunday, June 30.
According to preliminary details collected by Virginia State Police, a 43-year-old man was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck when it hydroplaned on the highway. It then veered past the median and collided head-on with a Subaru driven by a 20-year-old woman.
Following the collision, at least seven people were transported to an area hospital.
Officials have since confirmed that a 19-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Subaru, was pronounced deceased on Tuesday, July 9.
In addition to both drivers, two passengers from the Ram, ages 14 and 31, as well as two passengers from the Subaru, ages 2 and 21, were among those injured.
An investigation remains in progress, but police have indicated that charges are pending.
