Narrative
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – A man died following a motorcycle crash Thursday afternoon, June 27, on Route 28 near Herndon.
The fatal collision unfolded on the northbound highway at McLearen Road, near Dulles International Airport and in an area north of Chantilly. It was first reported just before 2:00 p.m.
Authorities did not immediately say what caused the accident, but the victim, who was operating a motorcycle in the area, collided with a truck.
First responders pronounced the rider deceased at the scene.
It was unclear whether the driver of the truck was hurt, but Fairfax County police said they remained at the scene.
For nearly 4 hours and 30 minutes, a stretch of northbound Route 28 was blocked from Route 50 to McLearen Road as crews processed the scene. Drivers traveling southbound were forced to get by through a single right lane, leading to a 5-mile traffic backup.
No charges have been confirmed at this time.
