Narrative
NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, VA – A 20-year-old man from Delaware lost his life Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while operating a motorcycle on U.S. Highway 13 near Cheriton.
The fatal collision unfolded on a stretch of US-13 at North Bayside Road, shortly before 3:30 p.m.
Virginia State Police (VSP) said the victim was riding the motorcycle northbound on the highway at the same time a 17-year-old girl from Cape Charles was driving a 2010 Lexus southbound.
Preliminary details indicate the teen failed to yield to the right-of-way before attempting to make a left turn from southbound US-13 onto North Bayside Road. Moments later, the Lexus struck the motorcyclist, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
An investigation remains underway.
