FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – One person lost their life late Thursday morning as a result of a two-vehicle crash on Dulles Toll Road in southeast Herndon.
Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) officials said the fatal accident unfolded near Fairfax County Parkway at about 11:20 a.m.
The events leading up to the wreck remain under investigation, but one driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, and first responders rushed the other driver to a local hospital for unspecified injuries.
No other passengers or individuals were involved.
Shortly after 12:00 p.m., at least 40 minutes after the crash, all eastbound lanes of the highway were shut down for the emergency response and investigation. Delays were projected in the area, and eastbound motorists were forced to divert to Exit 10 at Centreville Road.
